Local Business Marketing Blog

Local Business Marketing Strategies

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.
- Henry David Thoreau

Hi, My name is Les Earls.

For the past 20 years, I have been doing alot of marketing. I used the yellow pages, newspapers and postcards, letters and other print media to market my products and services.

But over the last few years, print media has became too expensive.
Marketing products and services on the internet is much more cost effective than print media.

You have probably heard the “buzz”!

Unless you are living under a rock.
The buzz goes like this: A local business owner simply pulls out his cell phone and sends a mobile coupon to his customers and a short while later, a long line of customers start lining up to enter his business, to purchase his products and purchase his services.

Believe me there is no magic!

Yes, it is possible to get a crowd of customers to your business, but honestly, there’s a lot of preparation going on before the crowd comes. A good way to get more business is to use the right systems, at the right time.

That business owner has a good online marketing plan… here’s the scenario … first and foremost, he has a great website. It is far more than an online business card.
He has pictures of customers, slideshows with music, discount coupon offers.
He has a Blog… He writes articles, He’ll tell you Why he loves his business and why you should too.
He has testimonials from his happy customers for the whole world to see.
You need to subscribe to his weekly newsletter, as it is so informative and always has new
special offers.

He is the local expert in his business.

His business is mentioned thru-out the internet. If you search for a business online, similar to his business, you will find him at the top of your Google search.

When you find his business online, you will find clickable links to his Website, to his Press Releases, to his pictures and videos, directions to his business and his telephone number.
You will feel like you already know him before you get to his business.

Here’s the system he follows:

He writes 2 articles a week about one of his products or one of his services. He publishes them on his WordPress blog. Then he posts his articles on his Facebook Business page and his Twitter page. He knows – that the more citations he has on the internet, the higher he will rank when customers do their internet search.

Citations are mentions of his business on the internet. Google considers how many citations you have on the internet when ranking your search position.

In this businessman’s system, he has been collecting his customers cell numbers and email addresses and now has quite a few customers in his database. He shows happy customers how and where to write reviews for his business.

Having lots of Reviews is important

Google likes “reviews” so the more reviews, the better your businesses ranks on internet searches.

Once a week, this businessman emails his newsletter to all his customers. His newsletter contains his blog articles and pictures of his customers. He has links to photo slideshows and a couple limited time, discount offers.
His newsletter helps him keep in touch with his customers.
His newsletter has brought him several referral customers.

Tuesdays, that’s when the crowd lines up.

Tuesday’s use to be his slow day! Not anymore. On Monday night he texts his Tuesday only- special offer mobile coupons to all the cell numbers on his database. When his doors open on Tuesday, customers are already waiting.

This local businessman works with a marketing guy. His website, his blogsite, his Facebook business page, his Twitter page, his mobile page on Google Maps, and his mobile coupons were designed and created by the marketing guy.

The system he uses to collect cell numbers, email addresses, citations and reviews were strategies from the marketing guy. Even the newsletter design was designed by the marketing guy.

If you want to get a higher ranking on Google searches, a fresh website with pictures and videos will help. You need to blog articles. Your blog after being set up properly, only requires you to type in the text box and publish. The plugins on your blog will automatically post all your articles on Facebook and Twitter. You need a plan to collect numbers, emails, citations and reviews.
If you want a way to avoid slow days, call a marketing guy.

I am a marketing guy.

My Friends it is time to Blog.
I know there are plenty of you “baby boomers” that are not blogging yet. Last year I was terrified about the idea of having a blog that others could view, not because I’m shy about expressing myself, but because I really did not know how to get started. I’m learning more everyday and believe me if I can do it, you can do it too.

What is a Blog?

From “Web log. ”A blog, is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”
Blogging is a smart strategy for Business owners to promote their products and services at minimum costs.

Pick a Platform : WordPress.org

I will save you some headaches. Choose WordPress.org over WordPress.com because with .org you can pick your own blog name, related to yourself or to Subjects you want to write about. You will have access to more “themes”, widgets and Plug ins too. WordPress.org requires you to use a host and we will get to that soon.

Steps I Chose to Follow:

Reminder: You want to use WordPress.org over WordPress.com because, you want to have control of your posts incase you want to move to another format. You will have access to more “bells and whistles with .org.

2. Next go to www.GoDaddy.com and pick out a domain name that represents You or the Subject of your blog.
3. Next go to www.Hostgator.com and have Hostgator host your blog for a few bucks a month, since I have multiple blogs, I have chosen Hostgator’s unlimited hosting for less than $10 monthly.
4. Then return to GoDaddy and change the Name Servers to point to your Hostgator account.
5. Then return to Hostgator.com and go to the Control Panel
