The Appraisal Review Board

I recently started working for the Appraisal Review Board.
The Bexar County Appraisal Review Board (ARB) is a panel of Bexar County residents who resolve disputes between property owners and the Bexar County Appraisal District regarding property valuations and other issues. The ARB hears protests from taxpayers and challenges from the Appraisal District (taxing units) to ensure that property values are assessed fairly.
Key functions and responsibilities:
  • Resolves disputes:
The ARB acts as an independent body to settle disagreements between property owners and the appraisal district concerning property tax matters.
  • Hearing protests:
The ARB hears formal protests from property owners on issues such as the appraised value of their property, unequal appraisals, and denials of exemptions or special use valuations.
  • Considers Appraisal District (taxing unit) challenges:
The ARB also hears challenges from Appraisal District (taxing units) about the appraisals.
  • Ensures fair assessment:
The ARB’s role is to ensure property values are assessed accurately and fairly for all property owners in the county.
